Decking the Halls
I wanted to do a blog post about our Christmas decorations. We don't have super fancy decorations and I'll never be asked to put my home on a Christmas tour or have a magazine want to take pictures, but it's OUR home and it is special to us. I thought it would be a good idea to record these memories because one day they will be so important to me!
I love my Willow Tree nativity!

I have a stocking situation that I just don't know what to do about. Ellington's stocking doesn't even remotely match the ones that Robert and I had before she was born. (For some reason when I ordered hers, I thought it would.) So, ordering two for us isn't really a big deal, but I want our other children's stockings to match too. But obviously we don't know how many children we are going to have! If we knew we wanted a small family I would go ahead and order like 4 more...but we want a big family so I have no clue what to do! I guess we'll probably just be mismatched!

One of my favorite Christmas traditions that we do is getting an ornament frame and framing a picture of our family every Christmas. As the years pass I think this will be even more of a special memory. Unwrapping the ornaments each year will be so sweet.

The first Christmas after Robert and I were married (2008) Reagan made us a frame to remember our first Christmas. I LOVED it! Much to my surprise the next year (2009) Reagan made one for Ellington's first Christmas! So precious. We gave her a break this year, but hopefully she'll keep the tradition going in the future. :) Also on the same table is my Fontanini nativity which I adore. And now as a mom, I appreciate that it isn't breakable!!!

One of my favorite things to do in December is walk to the mailbox. :)

Ellington's little tree.

As much as I enjoying decorating our home, I REALLY enjoy "decorating" Ellington. :)

Christmas Parties
Last week I had a Christmas party with all of the people I work with. I had to take Ellington with me because Robert was at work. Honestly, I was a little bummed that I couldn't go alone. The idea of having a meal with adults and not having to tear up a grilled cheese into bite size pieces or retrieving a sippy cup off of the floor sounded really appealing! But, if I was going to go...Ellington had to go! And we actually ended up having the best time. Everyone of course already knows her so she just fit right in! The best part of the night from a mama's perspective was everyone talking about how sweet and well behaved she was! Robert and I are so blessed to have such a sweet girl. :)
I forgot to take my camera to the party, but I did take the picture below after we got home. She was soooo wound up from the party that it took her a LONG time to fall asleep that night!

Sunday night our church had Christmas party that we went to. We had lots of yummy food, enjoyed singing some Christmas carols, and listened to a book read to the children.

My parents have a Christmas party every year for family and friends. The party was Tuesday night so Ellington and I went to Philadelphia on Tuesday afternoon. Of course, no visit to Grams and Pop's house is complete without a ride in the wagon!

Several weeks back at physical therapy we worked on crawling up stairs and Ellington wanted NOTHING to do with it. Well, as you can see she is now a pro and is so proud of herself!!! (Going down them is another story though!)

Ready for the party!

I don't like it when people's blog make it look like being a parent is really easy. That annoys me because it's pretty much impossible for everything to go smoothly. On this particular day I discovered Ellington had a fever when we got to Philadelphia. She also was NOT interested in me leaving the room or having anyone else hold her. I can only assume it was her teeth because 75% of the pictures I took of her on Tuesday look like this:

But, we survived! I just did a lot of holding (hence no pictures taken during the party) and had to put her to bed a little earlier than planned...and way before the party was over.

As I mentioned, Ellington didn't want anyone else to hold her but we convinced her to take a quick picture with Grams! :)

Christmas Crunch Time
(Warning: This post is really random and all over the place!)
It's almost Christmas. That is so crazy to me. This BY FAR has been the FASTEST December of my whole life!!! We are trying to take a deep breathe and enjoy this week has much as possible. Ellington and I don't have school this week and next week so we actually get to spend time with Robert ever day. It's such a small, simple blessing. This morning we had a few errands to run and one of the errands was to drop a bill off at the hospital (still paying for our sweet little girl!). And ya'll...we had the best time doing that errand! Ha! They had two BEAUTIFUL Christmas trees that we enjoyed looking at and the sweet older man at the front desk gave Ellington a Santa sicker and he thought she was just precious! Ellington loved her "Nanta" sticker! Then we looked at this cool snowglobe thing that Ellington enjoyed and stopped by the TINY gift shop where Ellington stared at balloons. :) Everyone that we ran into was SO friendly and on our way out an older gentleman met us with a golf cart to drive us to our car! (If you've ever been in the parking lot at OCH you know how funny this is because it's a very small parking lot and even smaller now that they are doing construction!) He too thought Ellington was just the cutest thing ever and he gave her a peppermint (which of course she can't have but I didn't tell him that). It was for real fun and Robert and I decided maybe we should hang there more often. Ha! There is really no point to that story other than to record it for my memory and encourage everyone to enjoy little moments of the day. Robert could have easily left us at home and ran in and out very quickly, but we were able to take the time to just enjoy being together.
This week we're busy getting all sorts of last minute things done (baking, laundry, packing, etc.). Thankfully all of our gifts are bought and wrapped! We do very little Christmas shopping so the task isn't too big and overwhelming. I am so torn about how I feel when it comes to gift buying and receiving. I want Ellington to know that Jesus is ALL that matters at Christmas, but I think that's nearly IMPOSSIBLE to do when they (children) are getting lots of great gifts. But....getting gifts at Christmas is so special and magical as a child. I don't know...I guess I have another 11 months or so to ponder this some more! And Santa??!! Don't even get me started on my torn feelings about Santa! Luckily Ellington is still really young so I don't have to decide anything about that right now either.
I will leave you with a few pictures of Ellington playing one morning with an advent calendar she got in the mail from our church.

Pajama Day and Visiting Emerson
Friday was pajama day at school so Ellington and I picked out our best Christmas pj's and headed off to school!

I meant to take more pictures while we were at school, but I got busy with the babies and didn't get many.

Ha! What a WONDERFUL present! :)

After school on Friday Ellington and I went to Jackson to finally see Emerson again! I hadn't gotten to hold him yet so it was about time!

Ellington wore her "Big Cousin" shirt again since this is the first time that they have actually met! :) Looking through the glass at the hospital doesn't really count!

We wanted to get a picture of Ellington and Emerson together, but I wasn't sure if it would work out or not. It's really hard to get Ellington to sit still these days to take her picture. Also, when she sits on couches now she likes to bounce all around. But, we put Emerson down beside her and she sat so nicely for quite awhile as we all snapped a ton of pictures!

What a precious baby!

I LOVED getting to hold such a tiny baby again! Bryant and LeAnna, I will come hold him ANY time you need a break! :)

Open Cabinets and Stashed Bananas
If you come to my house at any time of the day now you are likely to find this:

Ellington is VERY into opening all of the cabinets right now. It's pretty precious...especially since she doesn't touch a thing in the cabinets! Amazing, right? She's a sweet girl that little Ellington. :)

I just realized after posting these pictures that you could see the "Does not work!" sign. Awhile back our garbage disposal stopped working. (Which my friends, is SO SAD!) I have always had a garbage disposal and after it broke I sometimes started putting food down it without even thinking. So, anyway...I had to put a sign up to remind myself! It's been so long now that I could probably take it down and be ok!
Also with the new love of opening and closing cabinets has come a love for opening and closing doors to rooms. I am terrified that she is going to shut her finger in a door, but I am not going to hover over her constantly. That's just one of those life lessons that you sometimes have to learn the hard way. The funniest part about it is that she will tell us "bye" and then crawl to her room and shut the door! Ha! I am beginning to wonder if she is 14 months or 14 years old?!
Ellington is a BIG fan of bananas. Usually I slice a few bites at a time and then she gets so mad when she's done with what I have sliced and she has to wait on me to slice more. So the other day I decided to slice the whole thing and put it on her highchair. I was busy in the kitchen and looked over to see it ALL gone in a very short amount of time. Upon closer inspection I found this....
She was stashing it away!
